He has often been compared to the late Vladimir Horowitz, considered by many the greatest virtuoso of the 20th century.Pletnev made his conducting debut in 1980, and a decade later founded the Russian National Orchestra, which has since become one of Russia’s leading ensembles.These keyboard works by Tchaikovsky are under-represented in the catalogues, and no finer interpretations are available at any price.
