Hello buddies! I saw there is no much Dutilleux here so i thaught mit would be a good idea sharing these cds with you. As you can see, the first of them is signed by the composer in a visit he did to Madrid, invited by the Spanish National Orchestra, in 2007. That was the great moment when i met this soft spoken and elegant man. He ws very kind and, among other things, he told me about his prefered performance of Métaboles, which is included in this series. Enjoy!!
Review
Hans Graf enjoys Dutilleux’s confidence, and from this recording it’s easy to see why. The detail is all here, but so is the control of long paragraphs – few recordings of the slow movement of the First Symphony have moved me as much as this one. The sound may not have quite the brilliance of the Chandos set, but do we always have to have brilliance?
Similarly, Jean-Guihen Queyras may not produce Rostropovich’s matchless tone high up on the A string (which Dutilleux had in his mind’s ear when writing the Concerto); but he has his own things to say and says them with authority. In Timbres, espace, mouvement, Graf impresses on us the sheer curiousness of many of the textures, just as van Gogh’s 1889 picture La nuit étoilée, which inspired the work, stands far apart from so much contemporary painting.
